Each year, the Georgia Conservancy celebrates its work and names the Distinguished Conservationist of the Year at its premier fundraising gala, the Eco-Benefête. All funds raised through the event go toward supporting and strengthening the Georgia Conservancy’s programs for clean air and water, land conservation, coastal protection, growth management and environmental education.

In recognition of the Georgia Conservancy’s 40th anniversary, this year’s Eco-Benefête also will bestow the Founders Award on the Conservancy’s founding members of 1967 who, on a field trip to visit Sweetwater Creek located near Lithia Springs, Ga., made the historical decision to create an environmental organization for Georgia. Following that field trip, the Georgia Conservancy was legally incorporated on May 8, 1967.
